A humpback whale swimming very close.

  • The humpback will swim on his side and raise one giant flipper into the air and begin slapping it upon the water to the right and then to the left.  The flipper will go back and forth smacking the water.
  • One whale feeding.

  • A couple of Capelin make it to shore.

  • To breech a whale must dive deep, turn and thrust itself upward and then high out of the water.  Then they fall back into the water making a huge splash.
  • This humpback comes up from the depths filing her mouth with Capelin.  She breaks the surface for some air before returning for another load.  Her protruding jaw, filled with fish, can be seen coming out of the water.

  • Frightening, your adrenalin racing as you look over the side into the clear water and just below you a 40 ton humpback swims under.  As  you stare into the water, you see his eyes staring back at you.
  • This a marvelous image, rare and so poignant.  This 40 ton whale has just surfaced with hundreds of Capelin in his mouth.  But one very brave, tiny Capelin has escaped and is flying through the air.  Life will go on.

  • We can see the scaring on the fluke on this whales left side.  These scars tend to mean he was attacked at one time by a Killer Whale.  Humpback tend to lift up their tails and smack the Killers on the head to teach them a lesson.
  • Tail lobbing is a fun whale practice.  They lift the tail straight out of the water and swing it back and forth, slapping it against the water one way and then back to the other.
  • This provides an excellent view of the blow holes.
  • He is close to the boat and gets everyone wet.
  • The fog has begun to clear and this happy whale is having a great time.
