Mink will range a long way for food, but never very far from the stream. This gives them two options, upstream and down stream.

  • Pika's do not hibernate but they make warm, comfortable dens. They gather hay and grass for bedding. They have a high-pitched alarm call, like a whistle or squeak.
  • Pika's enjoy cold climates and are found in colder North American regions. They live on rocky mountain slides, where they find numerous crevices for shelter. Sometimes they burrow into the ground.
  • The pika is a very small mammal, with short limbs, big rounded ears and a short tail. The name pika is usually pronounced "pye-ka." They are known by other names, rock rabbits or coneys.
  • River otters are great hunters and fishermen. They live near water, a stream or pond. A very playful animal.
  • Their habits are unusual, some badgers like to live alone and will move from den to den. Others enjoy living in a community setting. Badgers can run fast and are capable of fighting off large predators such as wold or bear.
  • Mr. Raccoon is living near a camp site in Yellowstone National Park. He seems to have been eating too many marshmallows.
  • While hunting small animals, the mink must be careful that he is not found by larger prey. Owls, coyote and wolves will be looking for him. Mink live in dens near water but they will not dig their den, rather they take one that had been used by someone else.
  • "Ok, give it up, i want that cookie." Chipmunks are very active and do their best work harassing humans for treats.
  • There is something special being a western chipmunk. The forest are deeper, the rocks have more crevices, and there are lots of goodies from the tourist.
  • Badgers and very cute with kind faces but look out, they can be nasty and will fight to protect their home.

  • Sitting outside his den, this praire dog has eaten, perhaps a few to many green leaves. More exercise will be needed.
  • This cute badger is roaming close to his den. They live in dens underground and these homes can be very extensive with many tunnels. They are fierce fighters and very protective of their territory.
  • This mink has just come out of the water and seems to have something in his mouth. Hunting must have ben good.
  • A wet mink coming from the stream after hunting for fish, crayfish or perhpas a frog. Mink are related to the otter family and are just as playful.
  • A mink and young deer who are neighbors along the stream, stop for visit. It looks like they don't know what each other are.
  • As the evening sun began to set, this cute guy walked out of his den. Badgers and coyotes are normally in competition with each other for prey and also consider each other prey.
