  • Surrounded by lush vegetation, this Bighorn is having a fine time. Bighorn's love the high alpine meadows and enjoy the grass. leaves, roots, shoots and twigs.
  • I would not be very good at cliff dwelling and this large ram was wondering what i was doing there. Note his nimble legs and powerful body.
  • A young Bighorn that is facinated by the camera. He comes closer and the tripod receives a nudge. His mother calls and he turns to look.
  • Note the size and strength of the horns. Imagine receiving a hit from these. Bighorns have an unusual digestive system which removes all the good nutrients from poorer quality food.
  • The eyes are on me, being both curious and cautious. He wanted to come closer but thought better of it.
  • Bighorns have very acute vision which helps in the quick movement up and down the cliffs. It also aids with seeing predators from a distance. Once high up on the rocks, there are few predators who can catch them.
  • This massive ram standing high on the cliffs is a very powerful and dangerous animal. The other rams keep their distance. Note the size of his head and horns.
  • This small sheep was hiding behind his ewe and was timid. Born in the spring, this little guy was about six months old.
  • This is an older bighorn. His age can be seen in the worn out horns and wrinkled eye. He is in the last years of his life. I visited with him for a long time, we spoke of the past, I saluted his long life and then we parted.
  • A very young Bighorn. He is very curious about who I am but is afraid to come out from behind his mother. I tried to talk gently but he remained cautious.
  • This incredibly beautiful Bighorn show years of character and a hard life. His horns are well worn but his eyes still sparkle with hope of youth and stubbornness to keep going. This is an image of character.
  • A force to be reckoned with, a very large Bighorn.
  • The young Bighorn has found some tidbit in the gravel to eat. The first thing noticed is the beauty of the eyes and the sharpness of the sprouting horns.
  • The young Bighorn are always active, they play like any child. They have no fear of me and will approach with a nudge here and a nudge there.
